Mr. Arthur A. ""Doc"" Applegate, Sr., 87, of Ringoes, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Born in ""Pages Corner"" Robbinsville, he was a lifetime area resident before moving to Blenheim and later to Ringoes to live with his daughter and her family. Doc was a 1941 graduate of Allentown High School and a member of the Allentown FFA Chapter. He was a Master Farmer on Applegate Farms, growing potatoes and grain. Doc also owned Bennett & Mount Potato Co and Town & Country True Value Hardware in Allentown and was a manager for Agrico Fertilizer Co. After retiring in 1982, he was a courier for the Bank of Mid Jersey and worked part-time Probasco Farms in Chesterfield. He was a charter member of the Washington Twp. Lions Club, an organization that he was very proud of, and a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
Son of the late Russel C. and Mary A. Applegate, he was predeceased by his wife Shirley May Applegate and his brother Russel C. Applegate, Jr.; Doc is survived by his wife, Mary E. Jones ""Betty""; his children, Arthur A. Applegate Jr. ""Spud"" and his wife Helen of Nesquehoning, PA, Sharyn L. Danner and her husband James C. of Ringoes and Mary-Ann Dyott and her husband Alvin of Hamilton; a step-son Rev. Paul Woolverton, Jr. of MN; his grandchildren Melissa Jackson, Christopher and Douglas Woolverton, Ryan and Ashley Applegate, James R., Timothy, Abigail and Benjamin Danner, Christian, Eric, William, Amanda, Daniel and John Dyott; three great grandchildren; a special niece, Judy Jervis, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31st at 2pm at the Peppler Funeral Home 114 So. Main St. Allentown. The Rev. Robert Wecht of Pearson Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville. Friends may call Tuesday from 1pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doc's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
