Obituary

Alice Beatrice Wharton Plummer, 86, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020.  Born in West Chester, PA, she was a longtime resident of Groveville and resided in Jacobstown, Cream Ridge, and Hamilton before settling in Florence in 2012.  She retired from the Hamilton Board of Education, where she worked as a substitute teacher coordinator.  Alice was an active member of Groveville United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she and her husband served as leaders.  She also sang in the choir, was a member of the Administration Board, taught Sunday school and was involved in Youth Fellowship. A member of the Order of Eastern Star Bordentown Chapter #257 since its formation in 1969;  she was a Past Matron (1979 and 1980) and served as Grand Officer from 1980-1981 and again from 1999-2001.  She was a former member of Groveville Fireman's Auxiliary for many years and volunteered at Angels Wings at St Frances Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton. Alice was also a member of the Activities Club and Singles group at the Villages of Hamilton where she resided.  She loved to travel, especially to the islands and Ft Myers Beach, FL.  Above all, Alice loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She made many happy memories traveling and camping with them over the years. Alice had and cherished many special friends over the United States and felt blessed to have known and stayed close with so very many.

Daughter of the late Horace and Ruth Wharton, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Laurence E Plummer and her son-in-law Robert J. Galayda Jr. Alice is survived by her three children and their spouses, Lawrence J. and Maryann Plummer, Sandra L. Galayda, Robert L. and Lisa Plummer; five grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren A. Plummer and fiance Michael Scank , Matthew E. and Meghan Plummer , Jennifer L. and Robert Voorhees, Danielle M. Avanzato and Robert L. and Julie Plummer; three step grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren C. and Nicholas Santise, E.J. Chiacchio, Matthew and Jennifer Boaman; eight great grandchildren, Samantha, Gino, Ava Jude, Stella, Sydney, Jackson, Sloane and Leota, as well as many other extended family and friends.

A visitation with the family will be held at the Groveville UMC, 447 Church St., Groveville, NJ 08620 on Saturday, February 8 th from 9 to 10am. Order of Eastern Star Service beginning at 10am followed by a Celebration of Life.. Memorial Contributions may be made in Alice's name to the Groveville United Methodist Church.  Arrangements under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, NJ.
