Alexander Herenchak, 84, of Arneytown, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 12, 2010. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Arneytown since 1962. During the Second World War, he served in the European Theatre, in the 294th Field Artillery Observation Batallion. A Civil Engineer for over sixty-four years, Alexander studied at Princeton, McGill and New York Universities. His firm completed a multitude of projects throughout New Jersey including the Southern expanse of the Garden State Parkway. During the 60's and 70's, he worked extensively overseas, with projects in Africa and Pakistan. He served on several local Planning and Zoning Boards as well and was a member of the Upper Freehold Twp. School Board. More recently, he was active in the South Central Middlesex County Flood Control Commission. Alex was the publisher and editor of the ""Karpatska-Rus"" newspaper for many years and served as president of the Lemko Association. He was a member of the Russian Brotherhood Organization, as well as Lemko-Soyuz. As a Mason, he was active in Peninsular Lodge #99 and was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Central Jersey for over fifty years and the American Legion. His friends and family will remember him as a kind man, always willing to extend a helping hand to civic organizations and individuals alike.
Son of the late Maria and Stephen Herenchak he was predeceased by his wife, Madelaine Herenchak and his brother, Walter Herenchak; his is survived by his loving wife, Lyudmyla Herenchak; three children, Linda Herenchak of the Poconos, Valerie Herenchak of New Egypt and Gregory Herenchak of Arneytown; a grandson, Ivan; a sister, Nina Andrew; two nephews, Walter and Mark Andrew and a niece, Nadine Land.
Funeral service will be held Friday, 11:30am in St. Vladimir Church, 812 Grand St., Trenton. Friends may call Wednesday, April 14 from 7-9pm and Thursday, April 15 from 1-3 pm and again from 6-9pm at Peppler Funeral Home 114 So. Main St., Allentown. Interment will follow in the Brigadier General Wm C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
